STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY

I hope everyone in the branch plus your friends and relatives are all well and no one has any symptoms of the virus.

We have heard of some United fans who have contracted it, one is in an induced coma in Wythenshawe hospital, so it is affecting people that some of us know

It is a hard time, Lise and I are back in the UK from Madrid, and we have been self isolating for the past 12 days, I have only been going out to attend the clinic twice a week to get the bandages changed on my leg.

Social distancing is the key to fighting this virus, so for the foreseeable future there will not be any branch meetings.

I know we live in a large open area, but the decease can still be spread, just by being to close to other people whilst you are out

With Season Ticket renewals due on the 1st May anyone paying cash will need to get it to me in time for me to bank it and then pay by one of my own credit cards or cheque.

The season may start again, but I feel it will not be with spectators watching the games in the stadium, so we will see what the club decide to do about the cup games we have paid for and the remaining premier league games

Keep safe and if you are one of the people on the high risk listing, please self isolate for the full 12 weeks, don’t risk getting ill, we want to see everyone once this is all over

BRANCH MEETING 13TH MARCH

Good morning, we hope to hold a branch meeting on Friday 13th March at 20-00 hours

This will be after we return from playing LASK away in the Europa Cup, thinking it will be better then than after the home leg, not everyone can do two consecutive nights.

Venue to be decided, but probably it will be ‘The Railway’ Whaley Bridge,  (I will ask David to arrange this)

Hope this is will be a good time for everyone and see you there.

BRANCH MEETING 6TH DECEMBER

We arranged for the next meeting to be held at The Railway Whaley Bridge as a tribute to Godfrey Plant on the 6th December, the week-end we play City at the Council House.

The Railway was the venue we used to use for the early meetings until we out grew the venue, the back room is not very large so it ill be cosy to say the least

Look forward to seeing you all there, best regards Keith

GODFREY PLANT – RIP

It is with regret that I have to break the news of Godfrey’s passing.

Godfrey was a great bloke, always helping where he could with the branch, he did all the expediting of people who took the buses to the home games from Whaley Bridge.

Godfrey travelled to a lot of Euro away games with us and was recognised by a lot of the euro away travellers, it has not been possible for me to reach all these people to let them know, but I am sure word will get round on the grapevine

If it wasn’t for his love of Manchester United, then Godfrey would probably not have been to the numerous places he has been to, his famous statement being ‘ If it wasn’t for Manchester United, I would never have to leave Whaley Bridge’

Godfrey leaves behind his wife Joyce and their two children, Johnathan and Nicola, our deepest condolences to you all

The arrangements for the funeral have been announced:

RIP Godfrey you will always be with us on our travels.

MUDSA ANNUAL DINNER 8TH NOVEMBER

Many thanks to all who attended the dinner, it was a great evening and from the feed back everyone had a good time. I would like to thank the people who took charge of the buses to ensure everyone get there and back safely, John, Woody, Christina

It was a pity a few people couldn’t make it at the end, some we knew about, but the ones who said they were going nd then just didn’t turn up, is a little disappointing, because we still had to pay for their places.

Looking forward to next years and hopefully we can beat the number this year of 81

This years MUDSA dinner will be held on Friday 8th November, so the day after the 4th Europa Cup tie and before the Brighton home game.

As most of you know, we are one of the largest parties at the dinner, and following the jokes made by the compere last year about us only having 1 more person than the year before, I told him we will take 8 tables.

We currently have 80 confirmed, so all 8 tables are full, but we have some flexibility to increase this by taking some tables for 12 people. Thinking due ot the layout we would only be able to have 3-4 tables of 12, so 88 is the maximum number we should be looking at.

The guest speaker is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer so what a coup that is for MUDSA

We will run buses, and it could be that we run a coach from Chapel and pick up in Whaley, New Mills and Disley before going on the bypass to OT. Another coach or mini buses from Glossop, Compstall & Marple, Hazel Grove, Davenport and Stockport as required.

The menu will be :

Starter – Mrs. Kirkham’s Cheese and Leek Tart, Heritage Tomato and Red Onion Salad, Smoked Sweet Vinaigrette Dressing

Main Course –Lake District Lamb Shank, Parmesan Mash, Wilted Cabbage, Carrot Puree, Minted Jus

Desert –Sticky Date and Toffee Pudding with Butterscotch Sauce, Vanilla Seed Ice Cream

Coffee & Mint Chocolates

The Vegetarian option to the main course is:

Beetroot and Ricotta Gnocchi, Textures of Greens, Slow Roast Beets, Balsamic Glaze, Tempura Leaves and Horseradish Cream

BRANCH MEETING 26 JULY – MARPLE SOCIAL CLUB – CANCELLED

Good afternoon,

We had initially thought of having a branch meeting on 5th July, this week, but my assignment has been extended until 30-September-2019 and therefore I would not be home for it.

We are away on the pre-season tour until 24th so 26th is the first date available, however I would propose to leave it for just before the start of the season, so propose the 26 July starting at 20-00 hours

APOLOGIES – I NEVER SENT OUT A CALL FOR MEETING SO NOT MANY PEOPLE WILL BE AWARE OF THE MEETING, I WILL SEND OUT A REVISED MEETING DATE AFTER CONSULTATION WITH THE COMMITTEE

MALTA BRANCH – 60TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER

I have been very fortunate to get tickets for the dinner to be held this Sunday (16th June), to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Malta Branch, to be held in the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta.

We were also lucky enough to get invited to the 50th as well, so I feel this is a great honour for us, and if the evening is as good as that one, then it will be absolutely fabulous.

Alan Keegan and Paul Anthony will be the comperes for the evening, so that will be good, hoping to get a little time with Alan, as he is one of our branch members.

Not sure who the legends in attendance will be, but as we have VIP tickets, we should be able to get round a number of them and I am sure there will be photo’s posted on Facebook

Will follow up on this later

SEASON IS OVER – THANKFULLY

Well, that was a poor end to the season, to think if we had won our last 2 games we could have been in the CL next season, as it is we are relegated to Thursday nights with then a lot of game played on Sunday.

It was only by luck that we avoided having to play Europa cup qualifiers in July, that would have then put the pre-season training and tour in jeopardy.

Fixtures out on 13th June 09-00 with the draw for the Europa Cup group stage being made on 30th August, first game 19th September

Have a good summer
